Launched in early 2020 with catalytic capital from The Rockefeller Foundation, Medic Labs is a new R&D unit that incubates breakthrough ideas in data science and precision public health. The lab is housed within Medic, a non-profit organization that advances good health and human flourishing by building open source technology with and for hard-to-reach communities. Medic serves as technical steward of the Community Health Toolkit open source project, and supports more than 27,000 health workers who provide care for an estimated 15 million people in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The lab builds on Medic’s deep expertise in practicing human-centered design and implementing digital tools in challenging settings, while also creating space to explore new technologies, cultivate new partnerships, and accelerate radical breakthroughs for our field.
